Awesome things: Being in a new city is great, and setting up in a new place is exciting. Not so awesome: is that moving cross country is expensive. While i’m scrounging for cheap studio furniture I came up with a free and workable solution by using the cardboard boxes from our move and remaking them into furniture pieces.

I have desk for my computer and speakers as well as a series of shelfs for my drawing paper, matte board, and completed drawings. In the middle image is a work bench sapce with storage underneath for pens and such.

and in the back is plastic home depot shelf that hold a ton of stuff and an hydraulic drafting table that was laying out in front of my neighbors house. Not a bad space to get working.

With so many CDs being given away these days that it makes sense not to spend too much money on what is considered marketing material. Now getting a Cd from discmakers can cost you about 4 to 7 dollars per Cd depending on how many bells and whistles you get with your order. The more you get the lower the cost. Though even now I will admit that disckmakers does offer some much lower cost options. Which is fantastic.

What we did here  was piecemeal a few different things together. I’m a huge fan of doing as much as possible on your own the cheaper the better but somethings you can’t do. We order these awesome no glue required sleeve packs made from light recycled cardboard. We burn the CDs on bravo primera that i got from a record label that was throwing it out. It just needed a little TLC to get the draw unstuck. We also ordered a larger sticker that acts as the front and back cover of CD. Lastly we also got a large foldable poster that inserts inside. Acting as a advertising poster, and also a lyric book, by having the words printed on the back.

We got all this stuff together and, and spent a night putting together around 200 full color CDs, with a poster/lyric book. in the end putting a good number of CDs together for under $2.00 a Cd, and that’s with me getting paid to put it together, and print the CD.

Here is a great fused glass artist working out of CT.  This website has a gallery and working shopping cart system set up using WordPress and various plugins.  With a little bit of tweaking from myself. I can’t take credit for the design though.

The Le Project is a great band out of the Boston area with great grooves. I suggest giving them a listen. In this project we were going for low budget and organic.  This is design for a stamp on a cardboard sleeve. Keeping things to one color and keeping costs down by hand stamping the CD istelf.

Another project for taken by name. This time we worked on an album cover for the latest EP Kid Light Bulb. A post apocalyptic narrative was introduced into this piece that may lead into more stories. The back and front cover are included in the full poster which is designed to fold around the cd and fit into a sleeve. One of the goals of the project was create a casing that was low in cost but still visually interesting. So include a clear plastic sleeve and your good to go.
